There are a ton of great shows happening in the area this week. Here’s a rundown of the best ones.
The Black Lips & Vivian Girls at Cat’s Cradle
Atlanta quartet The Black Lips bring their raucous brand of retro garage rock to Cat’s Cradle. The Vivian Girls, an all female punk trio from Brooklyn, open the show. The show begins at 8:30 PM and you can purchase tickets online via etix for $12.
Destroyer, The War On Drugs & Shit Horse at Cat’s Cradle
Dan Bejar and company bring their 8 piece band to the Cradle to perform songs off of their new album Kaputt as well as old favorites. Philadelphia’s The War On Drugs and local psych-rockers Shit Horse open. The show starts at 9 PM and tickets are available here.
The Rosebuds at Historic Playmakers Theater(UNC)
Local favorites The Rosebuds will play a one hour set at the intimate Historic Playmakers Theater on the campus of the University of North Carolina. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by calling the UNC Memorial Hall box office at 919-843-3333.
The Mountain Goats & Megafaun at Cat’s Cradle (Sold Out)
The Mountain Goats will be performing songs from the new album All Eternal’s Deck as well as a selection of songs from the band’s 13 album discography. Based on other shows this tour the Mountain Goats’ set will consist of songs performed by John Darnielle solo a well as a full band. Local experimental folk group Megafaun open the show. This show is sold out.
J Mascis and Kurt Vile
The frontman of legendary indie rock band Dinosaur Jr. comes to Carrboro to perform songs off of his new studio album Several Shades of Why. Philadelphian native, and former War on Drugs member, Kurt Vile wll open the show. Concert starts at 9 PM and tickets are available via etix.
